Matriculation books [manuscript], 1825-1904.

Each new and returning student to the University of Virginia officially registered, giving his name, birth date, parent or guardian, residence and courses of study. Records for 1825/1826 were entered by the registrar. Thereafter the students entered the information themselves. Beginning with the 14th session in 1837 students listed their local address (boarding house). Beginning with the 33rd session in 1856 students pledged to obey the laws of the University.
